If you’re a coffee connoisseur, you’ve surely heard of Brew Lab. From its original premises on South College Street, Brew Lab has gained cult status in Edinburgh for its expert coffee creations. With this popularity comes inevitable expansion – and where better to grow their following than in the heart of the West End? But of course, only the most in the know will locate their newest coffee shop. Usually a side street you join the stream of clubbers on a bleary-eyed Saturday night, Queensferry Street Lane isn’t the most well trodden of paths. However, Brew Lab have given it a new lease of life…
From artisan sarnies to one cup wonders, this slick minimal coffee bar is the perfect lunchtime spot for the City Centre work crowds seeking something a little more sophisticated than the Princes Street branch of Starbucks. With stripped back pipe work, bare white walls and neon light decor, the focus is truly on the coffee in this place. A hipster hang-out it may be, but we can forgive that for the perfect caffeine hit.
As it was a Friday night when we popped in for the launch, our espressos came in martini form… Unfortunately not a regular menu addition but a crafty way to showcase their barista technique for us tired after-workers! We sampled a few of their buttery pastries too and were thoroughly impressed – if only we worked close enough to justify a mid-morning pick me up! Equally, their parma ham baguettes hit the spot nicely. Overall, it’s the perfect place to grab a coffee when out and about in the city centre. We’ll be popping back soon to give it a second look…
