Bubble Tea, Dreamcatchers & Doughnuts at The Arches, Edinburgh

Hidden away down East Market Street is a thriving new area being formed in Edinburgh; a hub of artisan sandwiches, bubble tea on tap and a Scandinavian-inspired nail salon. As part of the £150 million New Waverley development, The Arches has attracted some exciting businesses to open their doors here. So, on a rainy Thursday evening, we headed along to check out this fantastic new independent shopping and dining district as part of its official launch debut.

We didn’t spot it at first but the black balloons floating away in the breeze, the scent of pizza in the air and the distant hum of music lured us down towards The Arches as it made its official debut. After a welcome glass of prosecco, we made our way down the bustling street, slightly overwhelmed by which door to drop into first. We settled for popping into new nail salon Buff Concept Store; a salon fellow writer Gillian is working with – and one that I had yet to visit! A real treat for the eyes, Buff is a Scandinavian-inspired Pinterest dream, with slick clean lines, minimalist decor, an L:A Bruket Grapefruit candle scenting the air and Copenhagen street style books carefully arranged at the front desk. Having popped in for a coral gold foil Shellac manicure already, we’ll be heading back there for all our mani fixes…

Next on our list was Elk & Wolf; a treasure trove of dreamcatchers, stacks of books, dried flowers, woven baskets, marble chopping boards and plant hangers. If you’re after a unique gift for a friend, or some homewares to add something a bit quirkier to your abode, this is the place to go.

During the evening, we picked up a slice of pizza from La Favorita‘s truck to settle our hungry bellies, and sampled one of Baba Budan‘s fantastic doughnuts; a warm sugary concoction bursting with vanilla cream… their coffees didn’t look too bad either! Another hotspot in The Arches is the artisan deli Gannet & Guga – the perfect pit spot after an afternoon of getting your nails done and browsing the stores. And finally, Tempo Tea Bar has arrived with its first bubble tea bar outside of Glasgow – a must visit if you’re a fan of bubble tea!

Will you be taking a trip to check out The Arches for yourself this year?
