best hot chocolate edinburgh

With the temperatures now dropping into the negatives for the first time this year, we’re definitely in need of some winter warmers to keep us cosy this festive season. You can’t beat an indulgent hot chocolate on a frosty winter day, and Edinburgh is full of independent cafes serving up molten chocolate treats. Dig out your gloves, wrap yourself up in the biggest, cosiest scarf you can find and head out into the cold in search of these five fantastic places for hot chocolate in Edinburgh.

Mary’s Milk Bar

Cult favourite Mary’s Milk Bar do a roaring trade during the summer with their inventive gelato flavour combinations. You might not think an ice cream parlour would be the place to go during winter, but once you’ve tried one of Mary’s hot chocolate floats your mind will be changed forever. The floats are completely customisable – just choose your flavour of hot chocolate and flavour of gelato then sit back and enjoy the deliciously sweet and sticky concoction.

Mimi’s Cake Cabin

The Christmas Markets are back in town, and once again Mimi’s Bakehouse are serving up sweet treats from their Cake Cabin stall. You’ll find the Cake Cabin in Princes Street Gardens near the Big Wheel, perfectly located to grab a hot chocolate to warm up your hands as you have a wander round the market. Our favourite is the Crunchie hot chocolate with a subtle hint of honeycomb flavour.
